So of course not every travel review of mine will be sunshine and rainbows but I want to make sure people don’t wind up in a bad spot as well. So today we are going to discuss the Gaylord Opryland Resort. Me, my husband and son visited the Gaylord back at the end of May 2019 and it was one of the worst hotel stays we have ever had up to date.

Now I am a pretty easy going person and it takes a lot for me to give a bad review but this one took the cake.

When we first arrived we tried to grab a rolling cart to take our luggage up to our room and the gentlemen in front that worked for the resort would not let us take one and specified only they could do it, which seem totally silly in my opinion so my only guess would be they want tips.

So we step inside after our first frustration and go to check in. We decided to splurge on the room because we wanted my son to be happy and excited so we booked one of the cool balcony rooms to overlook the entire resort. We didn’t have a ton of money but decided to splurge on this one hotel of the trip since it looked like such an awesome place.

The woman at the front desk proceeded to let us know that the room we booked was no longer available even though we had a reservation through the hotel itself months prior to arrival. But they apologize and decided to give us a suite with a large room and separate seating area in place with a great view. Well heck yes we were totally stoked.

Imagine you paid for and booked a room with a similar view to this…
but instead you get a view very similar to this!

So we make our way to our room and guess what? This is not a suite room at all. Its a regular standard room with one tiny window and a big palm tree right in front of it, and shoved way in the back possible corner of the resort. So I get upset and call the front desk and they woman tells me oh sorry she was incorrect and that is the only room we have left sorry. We paid way extra for this awesome room and got the crappiest room in the entire resort.

It is a very cool resort inside and so we did walk around quite a bit and its amazing they squeezed so much into it so that part was awesome I will give them that. It was severely crowded because of a dance competition convention and we are pretty sure that is where are room went.

So the next morning we wake up and decide to take our own bags down but there was no parking available the night before so we had to do valet. We call to get our car brought up front and no one will answer the phone. After 20 minutes we were starting to panic because we had reservations and were starting to run late, but someone finally answers the phone and says they are busy and will call back when they can get the car. So another 15 minutes and they finally call so we had to quickly exit.

We get home later on and they are asking for a review so I gave them one and listed everything that happened. The only response I got from management was ‘So sorry you had a bad time and we will train our staff better thank you.’ Yup that was it. I know things happen sometimes and we just normally blow them off but we paid way more money for a room we never got and I expected at least a partial refund but nothing at all. They did not even care at all.

So my advice is to stay far far away if you can. My husband will not even step foot in another Gaylord resort anywhere or give them another cent.
